(from gas and Lat. oleum - oil), the mixture of light liquid
hydrocarbons, obtained with the distillation of oil or with the
separation of industr. gases. G. - highly inflammable and
dangerously explosive liquid, adapts as fuel- for the carburetor
engines vnutr. of combustion (the gasoline washed out from hydrocarbon
gases with the distillation ranges of 30-200 °S), solvent with the extraction of oily
and sludges (fraction of 70-100 °S), for the laboratory- analytical works (petroleum ether
with the distillation ranges of 30-80 °S) and other purposes. G. as common commodity product
with the accurately standardized properties is not manufactured by
industry.
