Grigoriy Nikolayevich [ 31. 10 (12. 11). 1843, Moscow, 30.11. 1913, Paris ], Russian philosopher- positivist, chemist. From 1864 it lived in Paris, where together with 3. Littre published the internat. printed organ of the positivism of zhurn. "La philosophic positive" (1867-83). In 1875- 1879 edited by v. in Geneva left the first coll. SOCh. A. i. Herzen in 10 tt. After 1903 v. de Frans occupied the department of the history of science into the college. Following o. By Comte it attempted to overcome materialism and idealism, ob"yavlyaya by their manifestations of" metaphysics "; actively it spoke against materialism. The highest purpose of philosophy v. considered fixation, study and description of empirich. of facts, the synthesis of the conclusions of special sciences. Without recognizing gnosiology by the part of the philosophy, v. was dissolved its- in the totality of the concrete methods of study.
