hexuronic acid, is formed in the organisms by
the oxidation of primary hydroxyl gof alatotaboutzy to the carboxyl group. The
presence of aldehyde, hydroxyl and carboxyl groups makes with g. k. by
polyfunctional connection. G. k. is widespread in nature, being
the structural component of a number of the highest polysaccharides. Together with
others. it is easily formed by
uranium acids g. k. in the cloths of plants, it enters into the
composition of gums, mucuses and other pectic substances they are
ethers of high-molecular polygalacturonic acid. In the plants
under the action of the ferment of decarboxylase g. k. they pass into the arabinose.
