(Woolley) Charles Leonard (17.4.1880, London,
-20.2.1960, there), English archaeologist. In 1907-12 it
participated in the excavations in Nubia, in 1912-14 and 1919 - in the
excavations Of karkhemisha in the Euphrates. In 1921-22 it led
excavations into the Calve- ale -Amarne (see ale
-Amarna). In 1922-34 it led the works of Anglo
-amer.arxeol. expedition in conventional
repair unit, where they were opened the archive of
khramovogo economy (28 v. before n. 3.), the tsarist tombs OF
THE I dynasty hurray, a number of temples, the archive of the tsarist
economy OF THE III dynasty hurray and mnogochisl. of inscription.
Excavations in conventional repair unit made it possible to
restore the common features of the history of this city-state.
In 1936-39 and 1946-49 v. it conducted the excavations Of
alalakha in Turkey. In its it is true constructions v. it
idealized the social system and the culture of the earliest states of
