literature). Members of demokratich. of the union of the people
of Finland, the deputy of Seym into 1946-48. First play v.
the "children of house" (1912), the novel "inhabitants
Zatumannogo" (h. 1-2, 1914-33), the play Of "koydula" (1932) and the
"burning earth" (1936, to east 4z.) - about the life east of
people. Social dramas "minister and Communist" (1932) and "law
and order" (1933, publ. 1948)- first SOCh. V. on Finnish 4z.
In cycle of realistich. of plays about the inhabitants of the ancestral estate Of
niskavuori - the "women Of niskavuori" (1936, Russ. per. 1956),
"bread Of niskavuori" (1938, Russ. per. 1957), the "young
mistress Of niskavuori" (1940), "hair Of niskavuori" (1953), etc. is
shown the crash of patriarchal way of life and landowner's "rock
nests". V. - author of the plays Of "khulda Of yuurakka" (1937),
"Justinus" (1937, Russ. per. 1959), "green gold" (1938), etc.
In 1943 for antifash. activity v. was carry ouied the death
sentence, substituted with the life imprisonment; it is freed
into 1944. In the prison it wrote two parts of the
auto-biograph. trilogy: by "schoolgirl in Tartu" (1945),
"student years in Helsinki" (1945): 3-4 part - "I became
business woman" (1953). The auto-biograph. book "4 not was
prisoner" (1944) proniknuta by the faith in the victory OF THE USSR
above the fascism and in demokratich. of the force of Finland.
