RSFSR (1954). In 1917 finished Pet-rogr. conservatory
(class Of n. n. cherepnin's conducting). Learned game to fp. in
F. m. blumenfel'd, composition in V. p. kalafati, 4. vitola and A.
K. glazunova. Dirizherskuyu activity of beginnings into
1913. In 1920-31 in the theater of opera and ballet im. S. M.
Kirov it conducted by the ballets: the "times of the year" Of
glazunova, "pul'chinella" Of stravinskogo, the "red poppy" Of gliera,
etc. In 1930-34 artistic, leader and the main conductor of
Leningrad philharmonic society, into 1936-41 main conductor State of
the symphonic orchestra OF THE USSR, into 1934-36 conductor, into
1953-63 main conductor and artistic, the leader of the large symphonic
orchestra of All-Union radio. Under control g. for the first
time were sounded many prod. of Sov. composers. In 1927-33 it
taught in the Leningrad, in 1941-43 Tbilisi, into 1939-63 (with 1948
prof..) Moscow conservatories. Among its students - E.
