Gauss system of the units

the system of electrical and magnetic values with the fundamental units centimeter, gram and second, in which dielectric and magnetic constants are dimensionless quantities, moreover for the vacuum they are accepted equal to one. The units of elec. values in g. s. e. are equal to the units of abs. electrostat. system CGS ESU, while the units of magnetic values - to units of abs. electromagnetic system CGS EMU, in connection with how g. s. e. frequently NAZ by balanced system CGS (see

CGS system of units). G. s. e. is named in the honor k. Gauss, who expressed into 1832 ideas of the creation of aos. of system of units with osn by ones millimeter, milligram and second and developed this system (together with v. By weber) for the measurements of magnetic values.
