1782-1859 ], the mineral of composition MnMn2about4, contains 31% of Mnabout 69% of Mn2about3. It is crystallized
in the tetragonal system, in the structure it is close to the spinel. It is usually extended
in the form of grainy aggregates, it is thinner than the crystals of
octahedral habitus. Color is black. Tv. on mineralogich.
to scale 5-5,5, density of 4700-4900 kg/m3; it is nonmagnetic.
It is formed into the metamorphosed sedimentary,
kontaktovo-metasomatich. and the hydrothermal layers of
manganic ores. Main ore-forming mineral of some manganic layers
of the Urals (Sapal'skoye), Kazakhstan (Nayzatas). The industr.
value of gausmanitovykh ores is limited; they are used in
ferrous metallurgy for the smelting of ferromanganese or for the
subcharge with the smelting of cast iron.
